The Mask

The Mask

I didn’t buy a pup hood because I wanted to become a dog.

I bought it because, for the first time in years… I felt like myself.

Most people think a mask hides who you are.

For me, it did the opposite.

It stripped away the anxiety, the self-consciousness, and the need to perform.

It gave me permission to become Woulf.

I’d seen pup culture online before. Instagram showed the fun side. X showed the kinky side. But it never really piqued my attention until after my EMDR treatment, when I found myself more open to exploring the parts of me I’d kept hidden.

I had mentioned to my therapist that I was going to do OnlyFans while I’m looking for work, and she encouraged me to do what I felt called to.

So, Easter weekend 2026…

Me and the hubby get invited to hang with our besties at their place for 4 days.

Up the country on our motorbikes we go.

We arrive in Feilding. Our friends are already hanging by the pool.

Time to get out of our motorcycle gear and go for a skinny dip.

After swimming naked and catching up with my friends for a few hours, a few drinks and a few joints in, my mate Sam brings out a pup hood he had stored away in his closet.

Our conversation had somehow turned to pup play, but our convos are always unhinged.

We had already been misbehaving all afternoon in the pool.

The 2 of us egg each other on to do crazy shit all the time.

It’s fun.

I was lying beside the pool in my jock strap.

I took the hood from Sam, placed it over my head, and opened my camera to selfie mode.

Instantly, I was hooked.

It was the way my eyes looked, peering through the holes in the mask, that first got me.

I was looking back at my eyes, but intensified by the mask.

Wow.

I had to get one!

All black cause I’m evil. 😈

My ultimate hood would be a Mr S Leather one that’s fitted to my head.

They are like a grand NZD, tho.

I’ll get one when my OnlyFans goes off. 😅

My neoprene one does the job, tho.

The way it makes me feel when the mask is on is transformative.

Something happens when my face disappears.

The anxiety disappears with it.

The embarrassment.

The overthinking.

All that’s left is instinct.

Confidence.

Freedom.

Woulf.

I can go from dancing at a party and no one knowing who I am…

To having sex and acting like a complete horny dog.

I can act in a way that I can’t when I don’t have it on.

I walk in confidence and mystique.

I can hide.

Or maybe… for the first time… I don’t have to.

I first wore my mask in public at Frisky in Christchurch earlier this year.

I was the only dog there, so the looks I was getting from everyone there were empowering.

Some looks of confusion, some of disgust, and some of terror. I love it all.

There were also plenty of guys into it.

I wasn’t Jono in that moment, I was Woulf.

I identify as a Lone Wolf.

I don’t know everything about the community, but I’ve joined a Telegram group with over 100 members—a mix of different pups, handlers, and others into the fetish.

There’s a whole range of pup types.

Some pups are subs, and really known as pups. The colour of your mask can sometimes mean what you’re into sexually, like the hanky code.

But it also doesn’t have to.

If you’re a pup, you can have a Handler (owner), who is usually the more dominant one in the relationship, telling the pup what to do, both in sex and sometimes in life.

They can also train and guide the younger pups.

Or you can be a Lone Wolf like me.

No handler, no sub, just me, living my most authentic life.

Yeah, I’m married, but my husband is not into it.

We have been together 15 years, married 5. We have our arrangements.

And right now, while I’m fun-employed and living back with my parents, it’s the only way I get to escape.

The gear

The most recognizable item is the pup hood, which creates the puppy persona. I got my first one from AliExpress, but there are more lux ones out there too.

Other gear can include:

• Neoprene mitts or paw gloves

• Wrist cuffs

• Knee pads

• Harnesses

• Collars

• Tails

• Sportswear or rubber/leather gear

I’ll build my collection slowly as Woulf gets work.

The sex

The sex!!!!

When I wear the mask, there’s a level of freedom that unlocks.

For me, I feel more connected to my wild side when it’s on.

I might not look it with all my tattoos and shit, but I’m definitely sensitive, body-conscious, and afraid, just like you.

The mask changes that.

It turns me feral, masculine, and free.

After surviving a gun hold-up and living with PTSD, I spent years trying to find my way back to myself.

I never expected a black mask to become part of that journey.

Maybe the mask doesn’t hide who I am.

Maybe it finally gave me permission to become him.

Next mission… wearing it in public during the day.

Let’s see how Rave Cave goes on the 15th first.

Will the Woulf see you there?

Arwoooo.
